| Vineyard Notes: | The 2008 growing season started out slow with cooler temperatures in the spring. The summer was consistent and warm. Hot August weather provided perfect ripening conditions as the fruit neared harvest. Due to the slow start to the vintage, harvest was on average 10 days later than in recent years. |
| Winemaker Notes: | Cabernet Franc is perhaps the most finicky of the red Bordeaux varieties. It demands a climate that is warm (not hot), a growing season that is long and soils that are meager. One of Eastern Washington’s best sites for Cabernet Franc is the Weinbau Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope. In 2008, this arid, exposed, windy landscape produced a wine that is rich, wild and delicious. The fruit is intense and dripping with blueberries, vanilla, baking spice and cocoa. The palate is thick, lush and backed by deftly integrated tannins. A beautiful drink today, it should continue to improve over the next five years. |
