2005 Columbia Valley Meritage Red Wine

Meritage is a category of handcrafted wines blended from traditional Bordeaux grape varietals.  This pinnacle of blends shows blackberry, a hint of cedar and nice coffee notes. Firm, well focused tannins will allow our Red Meritage to age elegantly into the future.

Our 2005 Red Meritage is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. Meritage (rhymes with “heritage”) is an invented word, neither French nor English, that combines “merit” and “heritage."

"Although there's quite a lot of Petit Verdot (12%), which can often dominate a Bordeaux blend, here it slides right in, adding graceful scents of violets at the top and stiffening the tannins with some meaty, smoky flavors and a bit of licorice at the end. This is smooth and supple, a lovely blend of fruit, flower, stone and soil, that is accessible yet substantial enough to tuck away for a few years."
